The CCTL provides support for faculty, instructors, and graduate and undergraduate students across all disciplines through workshops, conferences, courses, learning communities, and consultation on higher education pedagogy. The CCTL works with schools, divisions, and departments to advise on teaching development initiatives and collaborates with campus partners on developing and enhancing pedagogical programs. The CCTL is undergoing an exciting new phase of expansion. As the CCTL grows, center staff will work collaboratively to support existing programming and design and implement new innovative programs and services to help the Center achieve the following goals: Expand and deepen pedagogical development for scholar-teachers at all stages of their careers by: (1) building community through shared practice; (2) promoting equitable, engaged, and innovative teaching; and (3) supporting the generation of knowledge about teaching and learning and the ways to share this knowledge with others.     Job Summary
     
    Reporting to the Deputy Director and collaborating with the Executive Director and the CCTL staff, the Director of Pedagogy will manage the design, development and implementation of innovative, inclusive, evidence-informed pedagogical programming in support of faculty and instructors. The Director of Pedagogy will lead program logistics, create resources, develop and lead workshops, and collaborate with other CCTL staff on assessment of the programs, among other duties. This position will have the opportunity to teach one section a year of Course Design and College Teaching, the CCTL’s flagship pedagogy course, and contribute to other aspects of Center operations as needed.
    This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced educational developer to join our growing team. The individual in this role will be in a position to make a significant impact on pedagogical programs at the University of Chicago.  A successful candidate will have a PhD in a discipline represented at the University of Chicago, a strong track record of developing and leading pedagogy initiatives, experience in college teaching, and knowledge of the scholarship on teaching and learning.
    Responsibilities
    Plans and oversees programming and offerings for the UChicago teaching community, including flagship educational development programs for faculty and instructors.
    In collaboration with CCTL staff, designs, plans, and implements new programs for faculty and instructors to reach CCTL and University of Chicago goals for educational development.
    Assists the Executive Director and Deputy Director in short- and long-range strategic planning for the CCTL.
    Manages the budget for faculty and instructor programs in their portfolio, including the financial support disbursed to program participants.
    Develops and manages pedagogical resources (guides, literature reviews, etc.) for programs and events for faculty and instructors in their portfolio.
    Assists the Assistant Director of Research and Scholarship in implementing an assessment plan for faculty and instructor programs to evaluate effectiveness of reaching program goals, including surveys and interviews of participants, review of materials produced by participants, and analysis of teaching observation results, etc. Revises strategic priorities and makes programmatic changes in light of the assessment, in consultation with the Deputy Director and Executive Director of the CCTL.
    Along the the Deputy Director and Assistant Director of Pedagogy, leads the planning of an annual colloquium on teaching and learning, including directing logistics and communications relevant to the event, collaborating with other CCTL staff and campus partners as needed.
    Increases the CCTL’s profile, reputation, and visibility.
    Provides one-on-one consultations with individual instructors about their teaching, course, and student learning.
    Provides classroom observations and mid-course review sessions for faculty and instructors.
    Consults with campus leaders, including department chairs and School and Division Deans, on program and campus teaching and learning projects, such as curriculum design and assessment, active and inclusive teaching practices, and the assessment of teaching.
    Uses in-depth knowledge and experience to recommend concepts for programming to leaders of various organizations and programs at the University of Chicago.
    Teaches one section of Course Design and College Teaching, a pedagogy course for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars.
    Responsible for scholarly development programs/services offered by office, including content development and administration.
    Serves as institutional contact for internal and external stakeholders.
    Performs other related work as needed.

    What will you do as our Accounting Lead?

    Oversee all accounting functions for our US site’s, including day-to-day bookkeeping & month end close activities, revenue recognition in accordance with ASC606, accounts payable & cash management, invoicing & collections, payroll and expense support, budgeting, annual taxes & compliance, and financial reporting.

    Run our US accounting team, including managing our accounting contractors and leading the department’s strategic initiatives.

    Partner with global finance and accounting team to build out broader strategies, integrating the accounting efforts of our different international offices and prepping the company for external audits and a potential IPO.

    Partner with US leadership and other relevant stakeholders to support the ongoing development of the US site’s reporting standards and forecasting & budgeting efforts.

    Establish and manage policies and procedures to ensure we have proper internal controls and processes are built for accuracy, efficiency, and scale.

    Assess the implications of new products and services to ensure our operations processes support our accounting efforts, we stay compliant with relevant laws and best practices, and we drive value to the business.

    You may be fit for this role if you are:

    A well-versed accounting professional with 5+ years of experience, covering varied roles and subject matter areas; a CPA or CPA candidate is preferred.

    An expert when it comes to GAAP, with experience recognizing revenue in accordance with ASC606.

    A strategic thinker with an eye for process, but one who’s not afraid to roll up their sleeves and execute.

    Excellent communication skills and a proven track record of working cross-functionally with other departments to drive value to the business.

    Experience in the review and implementation of financial controls and procedures, especially at a high growth startup and/or an international company.
