    Job DescriptionJob DescriptionSalary: $14+

Is your ideal role one whereyoure active and complete multiple tasks in a short amount of time?

Do you value cleanliness and hygiene - even enjoy washing dishes and doing laundry?

Are you passionate about treating animals with hospitality?

Are you eager to learn, study, and grow to achieve ambitious goals in your career?

If so, then read on, we may just have the role for you.

Are You Right for Our Team?

As Wise Owl Veterinary Assistants, we take deep pride in the hospitality and care we provide to the animals that stay with us for boarding, surgery, and everything in between. We are the oil that keeps the clinic flowing and the gears grinding. Youre the right part for our engine if...

You dont just love animals, you want to make them your career. You are goal-oriented with a growth mindset - constantly looking to grow your knowledge and skills. You enjoy sharing what youve learned with other people - from correcting myths youve been told about how to care for a pet, to teaching a newbie to do what you do, and do it well. Youre confident, excited to jump in hands-on, take on new challenges, and not afraid to ask questions. Still, you can be patient with each guest you handle to give them compassionate attention that will make them feel comfortable during their stay. Youll find yourself getting attached to guests you take care of.

You thrive on working as part of a dynamic team. Youre not afraid to pull your weight and take initiative or help with projects for the overall success of your team. Youre flexible, adaptable, and able to manage your time well because everyone pulls their weight by helping each other provide the best for the animals in our care - Thats not my job is not part of our Veterinary Assistants vocabulary. At Wise Owl strong communication goes beyond listening and speaking. So youre the type of person who actively listens and asks follow-up questions to gather information other members of the team will need.

You will have familiarity using GSuite, Mac products, and cloud-based software. Previous animal care experience not required, but a plus.

Shifting Gears - Here's a Bit More About Who We Are:

Do you know the term for a group of owls? (Bonus points if you do - but its ok if you dont, were all about sharing and teaching). A Parliament! And thats what we call ourselves: The Wise Owl Parliament - because we help each other soar and have a HOOT doing it.

We are a fast-growing animal hospital devoted to creating a better life for the animals of Guam and the people who love them - today, tomorrow, and always. We started back in 2005 with a small compassionate team and after almost 16 years, these guys and gals are now managing the business. Thanks to them, were in a great position to continue growing our team.

Because veterinary medicine is always evolving, so are we. Weve made a commitment to our local community; social responsibility and being a vital part of our island is important to us. We are ecologically minded in our practices to support Mother Earth (we recycle, use biodegradable items, are paperless and just went solar!). We provide an angel fund to support animals without homes and island-wide improvements in animal care, and we sponsor and participate in many community events for the betterment of the island every year.

Our success comes from a team that supports each other. We pair new owlings with experienced trainers who will teach, guide, and mentor you to build your knowledge and skills. We hold regular meetings to openly discuss what we can do better tomorrow from what we learned today. We share in each others successes, celebrate key events in one anothers lives, and have regular staff outings. We invest in our staff because we dont want this to be a job, we want you to build a career with us.

Throughout the years, this is what has made us Guams Other family doctor - We hope youll join us!

    The Role:

Part-time veterinary assistants work 24 - 33 hours/week with the option for a full-time position upon availability and performance review. Veterinary Assistants are required to work at least one weekend day (Saturday and/or Sunday) per week.

Our Veterinary Assistants are knowledgeable in vaccine protocols, parasite prevention, and boarding requirements. You will ensure each guest is up-to-date on their vaccines and preventative to ensure a safe stay for them and the other pets around them. You will help with the scheduling of boarding appointments and greet guests when they arrive for boarding, speaking with pet-parents during the check-in and check-out process.

Your primary tasks will be the care of boarding guests: serving them breakfast, lunch, dinner, cleaning their kennels, and taking them outside for their routine exercise 4-5 times/day. You will make sure each boarding guest goes home cleaner than when they arrived, giving baths, cleaning ears, and trimming nails. Between these tasks, our Veterinary Assistants assist holding patients for the veterinarians and Nurses doing treatments and procedures such as vaccines, surgery, nail trims and much much more. You will learn the names of all the surgical instruments and clean, wrap, and sterilize packs before and after surgery. These tasks will require bending, lifting and carrying animals and products of 50+ lbs (with or without reasonable accommodations).

As our VAs become more experienced, they are able to do more. Including client education, help run fecal tests in the lab and assisting the nurses in the exam rooms.
