    Position Summary

    Job Description:
    The Computer Science program at York College of Pennsylvania invites applications for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Computer Science beginning in January 2026 or August 2026. The successful candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate computer science courses, including introductory programming, software engineering, programming language design, data structures and algorithms, networking and cybersecurity, computer architecture, operating systems, etc. primarily to computer science and electrical/computer engineering majors. Other responsibilities may include advising students on independent study and capstone design projects as well as teaching special topics in an area of expertise. The successful candidate will be active in curriculum and laboratory development and scholarly research.

    As a teaching-focused institution, our ABET-accredited Computer Science program is characterized by small class sizes, extensive student/faculty interactions, and a focus on hands-on, project-based work. Students participate in one mandatory internship as part of our experiential education program prior to graduation along with a two-semester long capstone design project, gaining valuable experience in professional software development

    Essential Functions


    Experience and Education Required

    Applicants must have a Ph.D. Degree in Computer Science. Candidates with at least one year of prior teaching experience, interest in pedagogical research, machine learning, or artificial intelligence as demonstrated by published work or conference presentation and industry experience are preferred.

    Required Skills and Qualifications

    Candidates must have the interest and ability to teach a range of undergraduate computer science courses and are expected to demonstrate the potential for outstanding teaching, advising, and scholarly activity.

Experience and Education Required

  • Master's degree required

    Qualifications include the ability to communicate with students. Must also be able to apply supervisory skills, motivate students, be personable and professional, have patience with and understanding of students, and be able to learn and apply new concepts and ideas.     Responsible for dispatching Campus Safety Police Officers, Auxiliary Safety Officers, and Student Security Officers to routine and emergency calls for service via clear and concise two-way radio communication; receiving routine and emergency telephone calls and messages in an accurate, confident and professional manner; monitoring of college video surveillance system, fire/panic alarms, and other safety systems; and keeping accurate dispatch call logs and records.

    OUTCOME:
    Operation of an efficient, professional and customer service oriented Dispatch and Campus Information Center for York College.

    Essential Functions

  • Dispatch campus officers to routine and emergency calls for service via two-way radio communications and interact with York County 911 when necessary 30%
  • Receive routine and emergency Campus Safety telephone calls for service in an accurate, confident and professional manner and transfer all incoming telephone calls to the York College switchboard in a pleasant, friendly and courteous manner 25%
  • Keep accurate dispatch call logs and records 10%
  • Monitor college video surveillance system and other alarm systems 10%
  • Utilize the campus parking database, call recording and playback systems 5%
  • Monitor LiveSafe App 5%
  • Coordinate fleet vehicle reservations, stock dispatch office supplies, post dispatcher time sheets, college calendars, and department personnel schedules, and make sure department and dispatch databases and information are kept updated 5%
  • Maintain a clean working environment 3%
  • Send emergency alerts and LiveSafe push notifications when necessary 3%
  • Assist and direct visitors at the CIC 2%
  • Issue keys to campus fleet vehicles and make sure proper paperwork is assigned and turned back in 2%
  • Experience and Education Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience in telecommunications, two-way radio communications, public safety, emergency services or law enforcement preferred
  • Current NAED Emergency Telecommunicator certification preferred
  • Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Must pass a comprehensive background investigation
  • Must be able to handle confidential and protected data
  • Must become familiar with Campus Safety operations, policies, procedures and campus locations
  • Must be able to obtain NAED Emergency Telecommunicator Certification within 90 days of hire or appointment
  • Ability to operate radio equipment, automatic switchboard, telephones, computers, CCTV cameras, call recording and other monitoring equipment required in a modern emergency communications center
  • Ability to work well with others and interact tactfully with other people; good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and remain calm during high stress and emergency situations
  • Ability to type, speak clearly and professionally, write legibly and spell correctly
  • Ability to instruct others on the use and operation of all Dispatch and CIC equipment when requested
  • Ability to obtain JNET and C.L.E.A.N. access/certification

    Under regular supervision, the Safety Services Officer is responsible for enforcing parking regulations, assisting motorists, directing traffic, assisting at fire alarms and other campus emergencies; staffing campus and special events, securing campus facilities, responding to lock-outs, monitoring stationary posts, transporting students, and assisting the Campus Safety Police Officers when requested. Safety Services Officers are expected to interact with the York College community members in a professional and positive manner employing effective community service techniques.
    OUTCOME:
    Contributes toward the quality of life on campus by ensuring a stable environment in which security is balanced with freedom of movement on an open campus.Essential Functions

  • Enforce campus parking regulations; issue citations and/or warnings as appropriate. (20%)
  • Lock and unlock campus buildings and rooms. (20%)
  • Assist at fires, fire alarms, and other campus emergencies. Respond to fire supervisory and trouble signals (15%)
  • Transport students around campus, downtown, or to the hospital in a bus, van, or patrol vehicle (10%)

  • Experience and Education Required

  • Must be at least 21 years of age

  • Prior security, law enforcement, public safety, transportation, and/or parking enforcement experience preferred.
  • Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, customer service and writing skills.
  • Ability to work on foot or drive for the duration of the assigned shift.
