About the Role
Join a team dedicated to public safety and offender rehabilitation at the Wyoming Women's Center, the state's primary treatment and education facility for female inmates. Established in 1981, the WWC serves as a key institution to reduce recidivism by providing vocational, recreational, and educational programs. This full-time Correctional Officer position is considered a law enforcement role-with a 20-year retirement plan and a comprehensive state benefits package.
Key Responsibilities
Enforce institutional rules and regulations; respond to assigned post orders. Teal+1
Supervise inmates in work, programming, and living areas; model positive, pro-social behavior.
Perform searches (contraband checks), observe perimeter fence line, work areas and inmate living quarters; report security violations.
Conduct daily scheduled counts, monitor inmate movements, become familiar with inmate names/characteristics for accountability.
Assist in restraining unruly inmates using minimum force, and support intra- and inter-state inmate transport.
Process newly incarcerated and released inmates, and attend required training to maintain certification.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum 18 years of age, U.S. citizen, valid driver's license.
High school diploma or GED.
No felony or domestic violence conviction.
Up to 1 year of experience in a correctional setting preferred-but entry-level candidates may apply.
Successful completion of required background/reference check, medical and psychological evaluation, physical fitness exam, urinalysis drug screen, and shift/holiday/weekend availability required.
All hirees must earn Correctional Officer Certification from the Wyoming Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST) Commission within one year of appointment.
Working Conditions & Notes
This is a non-exempt position subject to overtime, shift work (including weekends/holidays), and requires physical stamina.
The WWC is a tobacco-free facility: no smoking materials or substitutes permitted.
Strict dress code applies (body art, gauging/piercings, facial hair, etc.).
